* Carnival festivities begin months before the actual carnival, which is always scheduled the last few days before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Catholic Lenten season. Parties, tents and competitions for best King and Queen costume, Best Village (African and East Indian folk dancing) and calypso competitions begin in the Fall or even earlier. These build until the week of carnival, when the semi-finals of the competitions are held and the partying continues non-stop.
* Six weeks before Carnival - Tents open
* Two weeks before Carnival - Fetes
* Carnival Friday - Ole Mas Street Carnival, Soca Monarch Show
* Carnival Saturday - Kiddies Carnival / Panorama
* Carnival Sunday - Dimanche Gras Show
* Carnival Monday - Juvert / Monday Mas
* Mardi Gras Tuesday - Pretty Mas / Las Lap
* Ash Wednesday - "Fete ovah, back to wuk!" (But there
is usually a big after Carnival fete on the beach at Maracas Bay
that day).
